Rice Milling Technology Advancements

BIRC 2025 will premiere India’s first AI-based rice sorting technology, a revolutionary system that goes beyond conventional color sorters. Unlike traditional color sorters that rely solely on grain-color detection, this AI-driven system leverages Artificial Intelligence and Big Data to recognize color, shape, size, and structural differences in rice grains simultaneously, performing both color sorting and broken-grain segregation.
The new technology aims to reduce white rice wastage from the current 25% to just 10%. Modern rice milling machines now feature IoT connectivity, automation, and advanced sensor technologies, including optical sensors for measuring moisture content, mechanical sensors for compaction levels, and electrochemical sensors detecting NPK nutrients. These systems enable real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance, minimizing downtime while ensuring precision and reducing manual intervention.
