Severe Cyclone Montha crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast in early October 30, 2025, inflicting extensive agricultural damage across the state.
Crop Damage in Andhra Pradesh:
According to preliminary assessments, the cyclone damaged crops over an area of 2.14 lakh acres (approximately 87,000 hectares) across 1,825 villages in 304 mandals of Andhra Pradesh. More specifically, paddy, cotton, maize, and millet crops on more than 1.45 lakh acres were submerged, impacting 78,796 farmers. Initial estimates suggest various crops in 1.12 lakh hectares were damaged, including paddy, groundnut, cotton, corn, and black gram submerged to an extent of 59,000 hectares across the state.
Human and Infrastructure Impact: Eighteen lakh people across 249 mandals, 1,434 villages, and 48 municipalities were affected by the cyclone. A total of 1.16 lakh people were provided shelter in 1,209 relief camps in the affected districts. Only two to three fatalities were reported statewide, attributed to effective evacuation measures and preemptive planning.
Infrastructure damage included:
Roads: 2,294 km of Roads and Buildings department roads were damaged, with estimated losses of Rs 1,424 crore. Additionally, several Panchayat Raj roads, 14 bridges, and culverts were damaged.
Water Supply: Rs 36 crore in losses to rural water supply infrastructure.
